FAQs About UpBeat’s Summer Camps
Where is camp being held?
All UpBeat Music and Arts Summer camps will take place at the UpBeat Studio located at 4900 N Elstone Ave.
What does a typical day of camp look like?
All campers will be dropped off between 8:30 - 9:00am, Monday through Friday. Mornings are filled with dynamic music instruction, typically in group piano and theory class settings. Weather permitting, each day we lead campers to a local park to eat lunch and play, and in the afternoons, students have the opportunity to dive deeper into their main instrument instruction or participate in multi-instrumental electives. Camper pick-up happens between 3:00 - 3:30.
Will my camper need to bring anything with them each day to camp?
Yes! All campers must bring their own refillable water bottle, a bagged lunch, sunscreen, and a great attitude and willingness to learn!
What are my responsibilities as a participating parent or guardian?
You are responsible for completing your child’s registration and subsequent waiver and medical disclosures form, and completing payment for camp. You’ll also be responsible for dropping off and picking up your camper on time, with their water bottle, bagged lunch and sunscreen. You will also need to keep our staff informed of any health concerns. Please communicate clearly and kindly with camp staff in person and via email as needed.
Do the campers ever go outside?
Yes, weather permitting, each day counselors will lead campers to a local park to eat lunch and play.
My child is somewhat reserved and has never performed or played music before. Will they enjoy camp?
Yes - absolutely! Our instructors are masterful at bringing students out of their shells through mentorship and arts education. The activities we plan on a daily basis are designed to foster creative expression, help students gain confidence and celebrate their musical wins at all levels, while working patiently and respectfully with each other and our staff.
My child can’t attend the Friday showcase at the end of camp. Can they still participate in camp?
Of course! Please let us know before your child’s week of camp starts if there are any days that your child won’t be in attendance.
I can’t attend the Friday showcase that my child is performing in. Is there a way I can still view the performance?
Yes - please let us know ahead of time, and we’d be more than happy to video the performance and email it to you.
Do you offer any discounts for camps?
Yes - if you sign up more than one camper in a household, additional siblings or household members will receive 10% off of the registration cost.
Do you offer scholarships?
Yes, based on financial need and camp availability, both full and partial scholarships are available. Please reach out to Sara at srodites@upbeatma.org for more information.
What is your refund policy in case our summer plans change?
In the event of an unforeseen conflict, camps may be exchanged for a different week of camp at no additional charge, subject to the new dates of camp having room in them for an additional camper. If an alternative camp option can’t be found two weeks before the start date, we can refund the cost of camp, less a $100 deposit. There are no refunds for camps less than two weeks before the camp start date.
